Symphony, Gerhardt Zimmermann was noted for his interpretations of Gustav Mahler's massively complex symphonies, with especially memorable accounts of the Second, Fifth and Eighth. On Thursday night in Memorial Hall, he entered the final stretch of his fifth and final year as the orchestra's conductor laureate with a blaze of glory in Mahler's Sixth.
